JetSet Extra Social - and some LA tips!

We’re looking forward to our trip to LA for the JetSet Extra Social on Sunday. As the official Ground Transportation Sponsor, we’re here to help you get from the airport to LA for the event, at a great discounted rate! So, naturally we asked our friends at JetSetExtra for a few LA tips to share. Whether you’re in LA for a few days for the event, or an Angeleno yourself, here are a few tips from them.

LA offers 75 miles of coastline, a busy downtown area, arts, diverse culture, and of course is home to many rich and famous. The Social takes place at Union Station- an architecturally beautiful building, known as the last great American rail station. This downtown LA transportation hub also contains many places to eat and shop, as well as offices. The building is a city landmark and a favorite site for movie directors. Movie scenes filmed there include those from Nick of Time starring Johnny Depp, and Seabiscuit starring Tobey Maguire, in addition to Speed, Pearl Harbor, and Blade Runner.

Some cool things to do NOW in LA, courtesy of LA Inc., the convention & tourism bureau:

L.A. LIVE

L.A. LIVE is the city’s newest development located in Downtown Los Angeles across from STAPLES Center and adjacent to the Los Angeles Convention Center.  It is home to numerous restaurants, nightlife options, live music venues, two of LA’s newest hotels, plus live entertainment and event space.

King Kong 360 3D at Universal Studios Hollywood

The latest attraction, based on the 2005 Peter Jackson film.

California Science Center

Known as the West Coast’s largest hands-on science center and offers special and permanent exhibits, LA’s largest IMAX screen and much more. Admission to the Science Center’s permanent exhibition galleries is free!

Los Angeles County Museum of Art

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is the largest encyclopedic art museum in the western United States. LACMA’s seven-building complex is in LA’s Miracle Mile District. Its collections include more than 100,000 works that span the history of art from ancient times to the present.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM) has amassed one of the world’s most extensive and valuable collections of natural and cultural history — more than 35 million objects, some as old as 4.5 billion years.

When NHM celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2013, the Museum will have re-imagined seven galleries, installed five new permanent exhibitions and reclaimed approximately 3.5 acres of green space to create an innovative outdoor learning laboratory in the heart of the city.

Some clarification on our Jetsetter deal: It is Valid to/from Manhattan and the NY airports.

We’re excited and overwhelmed by all of you who want to give us a try as a result of our fantastic Jetsetter deal! We hope you have great ride experiences and become life long loyal GroundLinkers :)

We do realize there was some confusion over pricing on the deal between Manhattan and NY airports.

This morning, thanks to Mark from MilesFromBlighty.com, we realized there’s an interesting issue that has to do with our website calculating a bad price from an incomplete address. We investigated it immediately, as GroundLink takes accurate pricing very seriously.

At first we thought there was just a pricing quirk in Manhattan below Houston St. We later realized it is actually a bug on our website regarding incomplete addresses, below Houston St.

When you try to book a ride and do not enter a complete address ie: “Wall St NY, NY 10005”, the price comes to $84 plus tax / tip. The map actually puts you somewhere out in the water, outside of Manhattan (see image above), so it does not recognize that you’re on a valid street in Manhattan. And we know our cars can’t swim! Any actual address in Manhattan (i.e. 2 Wall St, NY, NY, 10006) is in fact covered by the voucher.

So, just to clarify, you can in fact get from anywhere in Manhattan to the NY airports (or the reverse) with this deal as advertised, but there appears to be a bug on our website regarding incomplete addresses, which we are now working on fixing.

If anyone comes across any other issues or needs any additional assistance, please let us know. You can contact melissa[AT]groundlink.com or call customer service direct anytime at 212-787-777. Thanks again to Mark, and safe travels!
